Johan August Frost & Hilma Lager

Johan August Frost, son of Fredric August Frost and Johanna Nilsdottir was born on 26 Aug 1854 in Morlunda Parish, Kalmar County, Sweden. He died about 1929 in Minnesota, USA.

Hilma Carolina Lager, daughter of Johan Peter Lager and Maja Greta Svensdotter, was born on 22 Jun 1866 in Lönsås parish, Östergötland, Sweden. She died on 29 Mar 1947.

Johan Frost, also known as John Frost or J.A. Frost, came with his parents to the US from Sweden in 1864, at the age of 10. They lived in Illinois until 1869, then moved to Salemsborg, Kansas.

He was a Lutheran Minister. From 1901 to 1917 he served at the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Merriam Park neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota. From 1918 to 1923 he was pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Mora, Minnesota. I've read that at Grace Lutheran Church, the largest chancel window is a memorial to Pastor Frost given by Mrs. Frost and Alice.

Rev. Frost also served at Emmanuel Church, on Matilda & Hatch in St. Paul, and Atwater Church in the Wilmar District.

The church in St. Paul today is called Zion Lutheran Church, and they list their history on their website. 

March 11, 1890 - church organized as "Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church of Merriam Park."

1900 - A small chapel built at Thomas and Fairview

1901 - Rev. Frost came to the church, and was called as full-time pastor in 1902.

1911 - 1921 the present church was built. The name of the congregation was changed to "Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church." Membership was 225 adults and 100 children.

1917 - Pastor Frost resigned, and was replaced by Rev. J.E. Linner.

Johan August Frost and Hilma Carolina Lager were married on 01 Dec 1886 in Henry, Illinois, USA. They had the following children:

• Esther Maria Angelika Frost was born about 1890.

• Ruth Miriam Ingeborg Frost was born about 1896. She married A. Elliott Vik about 1920.

• Carl Luther Emmanuel Frost was born on 02 May 1901 in Minnesota, USA. He died about 13 Aug 1958 in New York.

• Alice Dorothea Margareta Frost was born on 01 Aug 1905 in Minneapolis
